Monthly Reminder - January 2010
- 01/19/2010

Review & Revise Existing Plan January is a good time to review and revise existing business continuity plans. Consider what has changed since the last review. Are there new business processes or assets that need to have resilience measures put in place? A disaster preparedness plan should be considered a living, breathing document that changes over time and, as such, needs ongoing reviews and revisions.
Train The Staff A continuity plan is of little value if the staff does not understand their role in executing it. Awareness training should begin well before hurricane season. For large organizations, it may be necessary to go beyond simple awareness training and conduct exercises. Ensuring that everyone knows their role in an emergency situation will reduce the reactionary period and improve recovery time.
Tailor Your Insurance Again, the start of a new year is a great time to reconsider your insurance needs. Perhaps the last hurricane season exposed gaps in your coverage. If your business was disrupted by loss of power, for example, did your insurance cover lost revenue? A good review of the plan coupled with a careful consideration of assets and processes can help tailor insurance to fit your needs specifically.
